2011 SCORE Baja 1000
From November 17th to 20th the 2011 SCORE Baja 1000 was held in Ensenada, Baja California. Last Thursday, November 17th 278 racers from Mexico, USA, Australia, Canada, Chile, Germany, Italy, Japan, Denmark, among others participated in the technical inspection and got ready for the race; hundreds of fans went to admire the all terrain vehicles and to watch their favorite drivers.
The next day at 6:30am the race started with the motorcycles and ATV’s followed by the 4wheels vehicles (cars and trucks) around 11:00pm in 30-seconds intervals. However, for first time in the race history the Trophy Trucks had to restart at race mile 5 after a local constructing truck blocked the course. 13 Trophy Trucks had began the race at the original start line in the Cultural Center Riviera of Ensenada when SCORE decided to move in caravan-style the other Trophy Trucks to the new start line having all a final journey of 700 miles instead the 705 miles planned.
All participants had 32 hours to become official finishers of the race; finally on Saturday November 19th the finish line was closed with 155 registered participants at 10:18pm. Throughout the race the fans had the opportunity of knew unofficial result thanks to the media’s live transmissions.
The cars and truck overall winners were Andy and Scott McMillin with the trophy truck #31 and a time of 14h 51m 36s followed by the Vanderwey team with a time of 14h 54m 11s and Bryce Menzies just a little more than a minute away of Vanderwaey with a final time of 14h 55m 40s. The motorcycles overall winners were the team of Kendall Norman, Quinn Cody and Logan Holladay on a Honda CR450X with the best time of the race 14h 14m 25s, followed by the team conformed by Shane Esposito, Robby Bell, Steve Hengeveld, Bobby Garrison and David Pearson with a time of 14h 24m 55s and the team of Colton Udall, David Kamo, Caldwell, Timmy Weigand with a time of 14h 31m 10s.
The Sunday November 20th the official results were published and the award ceremony was held in San Nicolas Hotel. Definitely another experience we are looking forward next year.
